Hey Guys,

Ok.... I have been talking with Mr. FLashport for a day or so now on Nextel, with a problem he is having, he had a AS3 that his friend brought over, after he installed a encryption board in it, he came over for reprograming of the radio to enable encryption.

Ok, well, after reprogramming, it turns on and the Self Test stays on, dosent go anywhere else, try diffrent things, taking out the module and putting it back properly, nothing work either, soo went to disable encryption in the RSS, radio works PERFECTLY, encryption module is not shown in the Service mode at all.

Ok, here is the real mind boggler, well my friend then latter, took out that board and put another one in that he has around, did the same thing, ok.... wierd... I told him to go ahead and take out the board, and get your board that is on your radio, that is working currently, and put it in there, well he goes put it and programs it up again for enable encryption, ,,,.....

It does it AGAIn!!!!, I finally told him to go ahead an put back that module back into your own radio again, cause I have a hunch, it aint going to work, well my hunch was right, after putting it back to his radio, it does the same problem as the other radio.

Soo anybody have any clue what it might be?
Corrupted RSS? ummm Encryption board got fryed? bad cable? The work of the taliban?? lol.

and YESSSS if somebody is going to askkk, and i know they will, yes Factory Motorola Rib and cable is form Monty.

Both radio work when encryption is disabled, but dosent work when enabled, it stuck on Self test mode and stays there.

Not sure if this is on track... but...

What version of firmware do you have in the radio, and what version is in the crypto module? R07 firmware is required to support the new R3 UCMs. All of my radios are above R07 (portable)/R11 (mobile), so I've never seen what happens when you try installing an R3 UCM into an older-firmware radio...

I am just getting it top of my head right now so

Just that is module was working when he pulled out the moudle, but once put back after putting it in the other radio that had problem, it doesn work any more, sooo I cant get you guys the firmware on the boards :P I think he mention to me the other board that was first put in to the friends radio was I think he mention 3. something.

ditto

bad board

if the problem moves with the module (hanging on self test - like when the bus for securecomm is check in POST)

then it's a faulty module

I'll bet the module is R02.xx. You cannot use old modules in recent firmware radios. You cannot use newer firmware modules, in older firmware radios. Strange things happen like hanging, or locking up. I'm not speaking out of my arse, I've verified all of this myself.

People just don't read this board before making eBay purchases. Reading and searching could save a lot of money in the long run.

I've also seen a few fools posting modules for sale in the FOR SALE forum on this board. They state the algorithms, but hide the firmware versions from you. They probably just don't post the versions because they're too ignorant to know any better.

The blind leading the blind.

r u calling me a newb to this board and saying I dont read the newb guide, huh huh huh tell me comon???????????

lol :D

Oh well, well we fixed one of my friend problem, finally got the thing to work again after him taking it out, for some reason, he had to mess with the RSS and turn back on password with LogF on, it was wierd.. and it works again

As for the original radio, have no clue, i think it just older firmware boards, or something, well another thing is, the original board that was first in there to start the problem was 3.xx when you turn it on now, it just blinks a cursor. We Then tried those other modules we have, there probably 2.xx ,well we are able to get it turned on and come up to the prompt of the password, well Get this usually when you turn on password with encryption on, it will revert to default 01234567, well we tried that and it never work, tried password that was in the radio, dosent work either, Ohhh, when you type in the password, then press the side button, it dosent let you enter it in, pretty much locks up until power is taken off or you wait 2 min. And I know what you all are saying well turn off the password then so you dont have to be prompt for it, ahhhh yeahh, we tried that, and well, pretty much, starts up to Self Test and locks up, soo yeahh, I guess older firmware, so much for having these module around for couple years now. :P

Soooo......... ahhhhhhhhh gave up on it lol.

Wierd thing that XTS was mentioning is that, he was saying you can not use Old Modules in new firmware radio, well, this will blow your mind but my radio over here has ver. 01.00 module and it works perfect And radio firmware is the latest

Maybe your radio is an old man, and it likes younger woman modules?
