What radios do you own?: Too many for the time I have.

Trying hard, to convert a decoder from 'old timey' Quik Call (2+2) to Quik Call II; I've got a scheme worked up that will allow sequentially numbered decoder names "Site 18", "Site 19", "Site 20" , "Site 21", "Site 22" and tone plan I'm using takes the tones from the same column; ex. group2: # 1 = 288.5, #0 = 1092.4, ...#8 = 1034.7, #9 = 1063.2,etc.

So #18 would be 288.5/1034.7,
and 19 would be 288.5/1063.2
and 20 would be 296.5/1092.4
and 21 would be 296.5/288.5,
but 22 would be 296.5/296.5 right? WRONG!!

I just can't dig up the rule for doing this; I seem to remember something about a 'diagonal' tone to be used when you have a duplicate like this..If so, how is it used and where does it come from?

According to a spec sheet I have, diagonal tones are 569.1 or 979.9. I suppose it was up to the system engineer which one is appropriate. Both tones can be found within one of the paging groups. Unless your encoder is resticted to a particular code group, I don't see why any other tone couldn't be used.

Chuck -

I'm guessing that you are looking for the diagonal tone which was used when Group Call wasn't needed. Here is how it is set up for the Communication Specialist PE-1000 encoder.

E-mail me if you need further.

Yes, Andy, that is what I'm looking for; but is the DG programmed in the console I'm using? And is it according to a local engineer's option?

Some of the users pagers have AB/AC (or is it AB/CB?) reeds installed, for first responders...So it's not like a group call;
Man, it's been so long since I looked at a paging plan enough to make proper sense of it....

Thanks..

Usually it matches the PE-1000 format unless the setup technician was a sadist and just wanted to make the next technician's life miserable. What kind of console do you have?

The Motorola tone groups / pagers were normally setup to activate on a A/B and A/C.

Plectron sometimes used a long "B" or common "B" tone which didn't work with a Motorola Minitor II without some field engineering.
