I would like to find some used MaxTrac radios for use with our emergency ops setups. I have revied the model number charts, but it only says that an "M44..." model radio can be 40 Watt and "UHF (403-430MHz or 449-470MHz)". I am looking at a radio on Ebay (Motorola Radius SM 50 UHF 45 watt mobile. Model # is M44DGC20A2AA) and wondering which of these two UHF ranges it may be. Is there no way to tell? Thanks in advance!

It is hard to tell. 44 is high power (35w) UHF, 34 is low power (25) UHF. This applies to Maxtracs, Radius and GM300. The best way to tell is to look at the RF board part number. You want the 440-470 range to cover the normal ham band, the low or T-band units will not work! There are always UHF units on ebay, so I would wait till you are sure what you are getting.....

Look at the complete model number.
The tenth number/letter is 2 for 450 to 470 Mhz., 3 for 438 to 470 Mhz, 4 for 465 to 495,
5 for 490 to 520 Mhz, and 1 for 403 to 433 mhz. You want a "3".
M44DGC20A2AA this is a masked logic two freq. 25 khz space, 450 to 470 25 to 40 watt radio.
