Spectra Disable Transmit

I was shown a Spectra that would go into transmit mode without the microphone connected. Is it possible to disable the transmit capability of a spectra (C7 model)?

This had concerned me, too. If you enable " AMSS " in Spectra C9 to get a large number of Control Channels, the radio could transmit without the user intending to or knowing that it has, correct?

Other than using LAB to defeat transmit, is there a jumper or simple connector on a board which can be remove or repositioned to prevent any transmit capability ?
