Spectra A4 to A9 upgrade! Is it possible?

Hi gang!

I'm a newbie to the board as well as to the world of programming these radios. I have, perhaps, a dumb question.

I have a Spectra A4 and want to use an A9 head instead of the stock rotary A4 head. After programming my frequencies as well as the buttons through RSS, the head unit displays Mode 0, and does not function. Code plug has been verified, and the A4 head was placed back on / reprogrammed and unit works fine with the A4 head.

If this CAN be done, could someone give me the steps / info needed to accomplish???

Thanks a ton!

You cannot just swap heads.

You need to do an MLM (Memory Logic Module) swap. You will either need a new, blank MLM or you will need to get an A9 MLM with the same firmware revision as your A4 MLM and change the Model # and Serial # to match the control head type. Either way, you will need the correct RSS tools as well.

Look here for additional info:

Scoll down to the MLM section for details.

SORRY!!!

I'll be waiting to receive my flogging... lol

Sorry again!

If you have a copy of LAB software you can Bit Bang the radio and not replace the MLM board. It's all listed in the Spectra page.

Both links below will have the information that you need to upgrade your control head. Very simple to do takes about 10-15 minutes until completed. But I must warn you... when bitbanging your radio you must be very very careful.. a wrong move can turn your radio into a doorstop, and in a hurry.
