I have purchased a Motorola System 9000 VRS. Model # T04KEA3006BASP02. It was MFG in DEC. 1995. I am new to the VRS thing. I was told that the radio uses an Expo guts. I have taken the transmitter (HLE9019C) out of the unit and looked for crystals so I can determine what frequency it uses or reprogram it. I cannot find any removable crystals or crystal sockets? How is this unit programmed? Is it programmed via the Spectra RSS. I have noticed an 8 DIP type switch on the audio board (HLN9796A). What are the DIP switchs used for? Any info would be appreciated. You have the second version of vrs. It is not an expo radio inside. When I get home tonight I can give you more information. Curious as to where you got it from and how much you paid for it. You can click on my email icon below if you don't want to post this info.

Your VRS uses a RNet-SLM radio. The HLE9019C chassis number is for a 450-470 MHz split RNet radio. The manuals are currently sold by Motorola. The manuals and retail prices are listed on this web site:
http://www.open.org/~blenderm/spectra/m ... l#spec_man
It is crystal controlled and I think you will have to unsolder them to change them.
The DIP switches are documented in the RNet-SLM manual and are used to select the flat vs. emphasized audio paths and such. The crystal frequency formulas are also covered in the manual.
