Apologies in advance, because I know this is a popular thing to do, but I've searched and not found any concise answer on why you would want to.

So why would I ever want a MTS2k codeplug in my MTX8k (B5)?

What features will it enable for me?

Should I run out and do this?

What are the risks in doing so?

Hi Kyle. The main reason I would do it would be to get SmartZone & the ability to program frequencies between 866-870 without needing hacked RSS to do it. Other than that, I haven't sat down & done a side-by-side comparsion between them to see what else the MTS might do that the MTX won't. Any other comments, as far as signalling, etc?

As far as risks go, it's minimal, but always ensure you save a packed archive of your original programming, just in case something goes wrong. Also be advised that any & all programming currently in your radio will be replaced by the MTS information, including model/serial numbers.

The MTS2000 allows the priority monitor scan function, rather than the talkgroup scan on the MTX. I don't think many of the MTS features actually work on the MTX, like the MDC paging, caller id, MPL, etc.
