Hi all,

I'm after information on how to clone 2 ASTRO mobiles and transfering the flashcode over at the same time?

Does it require the RSS only? Do the radios have to be the same model number? Can it be done with a RIB and cable only.

Thanks for any replies

Recommend you don't do it. It's a fast way to kill a radio.

But, if you really, REALLY want to try it, you'd want to make very sure that the two radios are the same band and bandsplit and that the firmware in the two radios is essentially identical.

If the firmware versions in the donor radio
are higher than the firmware versions in the recipient radio, your recipient radio will PROBABLY not work correctly, that is, IF you can successfully and CORRECTLY retune the radio. If you don't do that, congratulations, you have made a paperweight out of an expensive radio.

If the firmware in the recipient radio is equal to (or higher than) the firmware in the donor radio, the features should work OK, generally speaking, but there are some exceptions. Some features were taken out of newer firmware versions to make room for others.

In short, if they don't match EXACTLY, there's no guarantee of success.

And you still will HAVE to totally retune the radio, which is something that absolutely requires a service monitor to do correctly.
And you have to know the procedure.

Make full backups of the recipient radio's original codeplug. Do standard backups, and also make backups via the get/save with no pack/unpack options. You'll need them if this doesn't work.

When cloning, don't forget to read the serial number of the recipient radio before blasting the new codeplug into it.

And above all, don't do it.

Thanks for all that info Elroy , you're a champion!! The radios are the same band split, but not sure about the firmware compatability.
