Does anyone know if the squelch threshold can be set through the programming? The reason I ask is I have a friend who has a Vertex VX-150 with a stub antenna and it seems to be alot more sensitive and hears stations alot farther away than an MT2000.--Thanks

Don't have a direct answer but an observation. I was issued a MT2000 after having a MT1000 for several years and the MT1000 received much better in fringe areas. Not just a fluke, I tried 3 other MT2000's with the same result. Good radio but lacking a bit in receive sensitivity.

Squelch tightness can be set via the RSS. In fact, I found my squelch settings to be mostly too high on most of the radios I tried. After resetting them, the radio received weaker signals better.
I have also tried many VHF MT2000s and MTS2000s with the same results as stated above. The HT1000 and Astro Saber beat it hands down in the sensitivity department.

You might happen to have one of the low range MT's and your frequency is near the limits of it's band.

I too have found the squelch and power settings to be maxed out or flopped from where they should be. I see this more frequently than I should.

Strange, since the RF boards are virtually identical in all of the above.
