Might be a dumb question, but a quick search didnt return recent info...

What or who do you need to be to purchase the software for the CDM series of radios? Our department is wanting the ability to program our own radios from now on, instead of having the dealer travel out to all of our diferent stations. We have about 50 CDM1250s and maybe 100 ht750s, with more to come soon.

There are a couple of reasons why we would like to be involved in our own programing. Our county fire defense board is discussing making some operational changes to the organization of our frequencies. There is also talk of adding frequencies, but its unknown at this time when that will happen. This has the possibility of being done in stages, requiring a programing change each time. The other thing we would like to do is update our alias list for the MDC decode on an annual basis or as apparatus and radios get assigned to a diferent station.

Is this possible for us to be able to do or would motorola laugh at us?
It obviously costs big bucks to have our dealer travel throughout our 300 square mile district for a few days to do programing.
Not that it matters, but we have some sort of an existing account with them, Im sure its nothing special though.

Any thoughts?

Motorola hates licensing the Waris CPS to individuals or non-/\/\ businesses. They seem perfectly happy to license governmental agencies and emergency services organizations.

If you are a fire department with 150 Waris series units, I doubt it will be a problem.

That's not to be confused with being simple though. You will have to call and open a case with them in order to have them send you the application to apply for the Waris CPS (no that wasn't a redundancy on my part). Once you get the applicaton, you will have to fill it out, including the serial numbers of several of the actual radios in your fleet, the name of your dealer, etc.

After they receive, review, and approve your initial application, then they will send you the actual CPS license application. Once you fill that out, and they receive the original signed copy, you will be good to go.

What could be simpler? Remember- this license is only for the Waris products. If you want to program (almost) any other product you also have to file the standard RSS/CPS license, if you have not already done so (although there is no pre-application for that one).

On the bright side, you will also be eligible for MOL access that includes the ability to download CPS and firmware updates at your convenience.

A final word of advice- don't buy third party programming cables of RIBs for the Waris series radios. It only takes one corrupted radio to more than cover the cost difference, and with 150 units, your odds are pretty good. If you want the ability to update your radio's firmware you should also order the reflashing adapter (more info is available on the main Batlabs site) and the accessory connector adapter for the mobiles.
