Why would a "monitor-only" user ever program their radio to affiliate anyway? Sounds like just asking for trouble to me...
If you're using the radio with the 'hidden channels' trick, those trunked channels can be programmed as SmartZone groups, with no problem. I can't imagine the radio trying to affiliate in SCAN mode.
Otherwise, never select SmartZone as the system type or it will automatically affiliate on power-up and every group change.
