Rib Boxes

I used a rib box to program a CDM1250 with good results. When used for a CDM1550, I encountered problems. Is there one rib box for all types of radios or does this vary?

If you use a genuine Motorola RIB, you'll have no issues with any of the radios. If you use a clone or homebrew job, your mileage will vary. The knock-off's range from excellent to 'brick waiting to happen'. What are you using?

Todd's da man. If you are using one of the flea-bay knock offs, you might have trouble, you might not. I have used two different clones, and had varying results. The ones from the fella up in Butler, MO worked ok for Maxtracs/GP300s, but wouldn't work for high power or remote mounted Spectras.

Cant go wrong with the genuine article.

 I did wind up with a homebrew but had no problems programming another radio. I would tend to think that it would not vary from radio to radio. Maybe I was wrong. I didnt have the funds to swing a newbie from motorola. I want to make sure I do no tost a radio. I spent enough money on this so I wouldnt have to visit the shops all the time if I wanted to make some changes. I am timid to use it again though...

You can build a virtual clone of the Motorola RIB by purchasing the board made by Sandy Ganz for $20. It comes with a complete list of parts, which you can get from most electronics stores for another $25 or so. This is the next best thing to the original. Here's a link for the board:

The reason why is that RadioStew only sells RIBS and has nothing to do with software. The page that he linked to concerning RSS doesn't have any software on it for download.

It mentions software being available, but there is not any contact information or purchase information. SO i suspect that its just a dummy page.

Sandy doesn't have any links to RSS. SO i don't know what A-42 is referring to there.

I have a Sandy RIB here, works excellent on everything, even Yaesu/Vertex radios. I have also built them for a few local hams who bought the PCB and brought them to me for assembly. Its a proven and rock solid design.

It's too bad we don't hand out suspensions for being a dick.

First of all, I have no idea what the hell you are talking about. There are no links to RSS on Sandy Ganz's page.

Secondly, if you do a search for RIBs or Sandy Ganz on the site here, you get a ton of hits. His RIB board is no big secret, I'm not sharing 'new' information here.

Third, many people here have his RIB & have recommended it to other members, I was doing the same.

Fourth, I don't know where the link you posted came from or led to, but you are now the one who will likely get an RSS warning for posting a direct link.

I'm curious to see if you can fit the other foot into your mouth now.

Sandy and radiostew are NOT the same person. Sandy only offers the board, radiostew offers complete units that use Sandy's board. What radiostew does on his site is his problem, it has nothing to do with Sandy.

that would be like me taking you to a home page that links you to the famous hacker site, but whatever floats the boat

Dude, Sandy isn't linking to the RSS site by any means. He is linking to a guy the sells complete boxes.

Then radiostew, in an effort to keep the RSS requests from morons away from his inbox are pushing them off to someone else.

You managed to jam the other foot in there pretty quickly, didn't you?
A-42 wrote:first of all i was not posting a link(to offer rss)
And you are saying I was? If you are, then you're a complete moron who should take the time to go through just a small fraction of my posts to see exactly how I contribute to this board & how I in no way ever direct anyone to illegal RSS.
A-42 wrote: i was responding to the thread
As was I, to show where one could obtain an inexpensive RIB
A-42 wrote:looks like some one had a bur up there but and had to give me my new tag for no reason
I don't hand out the warnings, nor did I ask for you to receive one, but you did any way, possibly as much for being an idiot as for actually posting a direct RSS link. You use this board primarily to sell goods & make a little money. In return, you decide to attack one of the people who help run it. Sheer genius.
A-42 wrote: i posted or tryed to post i wounder why a moderator can post a link that will take you to rss and get away with it???????
That's because I didn't post a link to RSS. I posted a link to a RIB board, period. NO mention of 'radiostew', NO mention of RSS. Everyone else realizes this, why can't you?

I'm not locking this yet, because I want to give A-42 the chance to dazzle us with one more of his ever so insightful replies.

Insightful Replies?

Yeah, well, still waiting for the reply. By the way A-42, there's also a link to Sandy's site on the main BATLABS board! See here:

http://batlabs.enterzone.net/2wayrib.html

I guess anyone who refers a member to Batlabs is by extension guilty of posting a link to RSS, by your logic.

T'would appear I drove the poor bugger over the edge. Since A-42 is now a banned member, the thread will be locked.
