I see them all the time in the local pawn shops where the trades people
pawn them for beer money till the union hall calls them out for another
job. Then they go take a payday loan to get them out to use to make
a paycheck so they can pay the loan. When the job is done plus a
couple weeks they go back in pawn for beer money etc etc etc ....

that is unless I need a set and catch them when they hit the sales
shelf  Got a lot of specialty tools that way. CHEEEEEEEP !!

Pawnshoping. Great fun Phrawg

Greenlee Hole Punches

Post by Dan562 »

I have found Greenlee Hole Punches at ACE Hardware Stores, the entire sets, Home Depot, the entire set, Newark Electronics, the entire set or individual ones, Electrical Sopply houses carry them and /\/\ AAD (NPD) carried these punches too. The only thing I will mention is the ones at the Electrical Supply houses are a little bit different in size to the ones sold for Electronic equipment. I don't know why they have two different versions. I will agree that hole saw don't come close to the quality of the hole that the Greenlee provides.

The reason that the greenlee punches at electrical supply houses are of a different size is because they are sized for say a 1 1/2" punch is for a 1 1/2"
electrical conduit connector which is actually closer to 1 7/8" in diameter. The ones for electronic industry are sized as listed.. 1 1/2" will make a 1 1/2" hole for you....

dito, beat me to it. The electrical ones are quick reference labeled according to the size of the conduit, rather than the size of the hole it makes for the threaded piece that goes on the end of the conduit.

Well,
thanks dan.... and all the rest of you guys.. well you must have the midas touch.. because here in NY I tried all of the stores you mentioned with no luck... got all kinds of looks.. with the exception of the electric supply houses.. actually i guess it's a good thing I might have screwed up and a made a wrong size hole in my truck..I know it's probabally not good for the cutting blade but i tried my borrowed punch on a piece of cardboard- just to see if i remember how to use it...NOW I SEE why i will never use a "holesaw" again... you just cant beat a CP for any kind of work that requires a clean hole ..

Oh man, what I would'nt give for a good pawn shop in my area. When I go down to West Virgina to visit familt, there's one on every corner. I'm like a kid in a candy shop when I go down.

I love them...
I used to look down on them and the element that used to frequent the shops.. but i went in and realized that they serve a purpose and that i might benifit from this business.
So now when ever they get some camera gear instock they give me a call and i run there to see what they have...
I am worried about stolen merchandise though... I don't want to get locked up buying something that is stolen or anything like that...actually they even have moto gear not the kinda stuff that folk talk about on here but you might find some lesser gear radius and the like....
Don't even get me started on the power tools.......
