OK, I know you can take an 800MHz Maxtrac and turn it into a 902MHz receiver for a repeater. But, can you take an 800MHz GTX and do the same with it? If so, is it any easier to modify than the Maxtrac to do that?

Thanks,
Charles

Somehow I doubt it. I have the 900 MHz service manual and there's nothing inside to tweak or adjust. The single main circuit board has major components on both sides, they're 99.9% surface mount quite tiny (compared to a MaxTrac), and the radio is basically purpose-built. There's no plug-in EPROM like with MaxTracs. The control panel has more intelligence on it than a MaxTrac

The 900 MHz radio I have receives down to about 918 MHz, but that's a far cry from 902 unfortunately. I "gave in" and am using a converted MaxTrac for my repeater receiver. With just one filter replaced and the other shorted out, the unit has fantastic sensitivity.
