Hi,
I just moved my known working HLN1185B into a new vehicle. It is attached to an A9 spectra, the same one as it was attached to before. When I turn on the siren functions it starts for a second, stops and gives a SPKR SHORT error then continues on without any problems. This is reproduceable, and not a one shot deal. Anyone have any idea what this could be from? Other than the inital error it seems to work fine.

It went from a 1998 Crwn Vic PI to a new 2004 Suburban

Check and make sure your contacts @ the speaker aren't loose enough to hit anything around them, and double check your wiring going out to the speaker and make sure the wire isn't stripped and possibly touching to ground.

I have checked all of that ... the interesting thing is that it only gives the error as soon as you turn on the siren. It then shuts off (the sound) and then continues as would be expected.. this would not be the case with a floating ground or a short (IMHO)

try reversing the speaker leads??? might be an intermittent short on one side of the speaker....

I have had the same error message. Found it to be a low voltage issue. Not to sure why.

This is a common problem when using a Dynamax (JUNK) or Gall's slim line speaker.

If you have one of these, throw it in the garbage and install a
Federal TS100 or other conventional speaker. If you need a slim speaker, use the Whelen SA314.

Measure the resistance on your existing speaker. Any less than 6.0 ohms and you can get this message.

Thanks for the response. I will check. I believe that i am either using a whelen or a federal signal "box" speaker... I dont remember which one was installed for which siren but it definately was not a dynmax or galls speaker.
