Suddenly shrill audio from dropped JEDI ?

Post by Leadenwah »

I recently dropped an MTX8000 B5 from just about 2 feet on to pavement with no visible exterior damage. The audio, however, went shrill as if the radio was inside of large tin can. I still have full volume control, but it sound very " tinny " now though all other functions are just fine.

Any thoughts?

What radios do you own?: XTS2500, XTS5000, and MTS2000

sounds like the either the speaker came loose or possibly the front display board popped out of the case, etc. I would open the radio and look for anything poppped loose, since the Jedis are basically snap together, could be any number of things that popped loose from the fall (the front shiled, display board, speaker, etc) you really just have to open it and look. They are pretty easy to open and disassemble, all it takes is a small flathead screwdriver.

very likely a bad speaker. It will look fine but the magnet core
inside has come unbonded from the bottom of the cup and now is
dragging on the coil. Common problem in impact related failure.
Il bet a new one will solve the problem. Phrawg

I had a similar problem. I dropped my MT2000 about 50 feet onto concrete. The speaker stopped working all together, putting a new flex assembly (with speaker) brought it back to life!
