I know this has been addressed by people before, I've just never paid attention to it.
Tried to call /\/\ today to order the RSS licensing package, and they gave me the run around about ordering $1000 of stuff to set up an account and then they would send me the licensing package.
So anyway around that? I don't need any accessories right now, not even $100 worth of stuff, as I explained to the nice lady.
Thanks,
Jay

Sorry Jay, your options are limited...
Part of the problem is /\/\ wants to protect its dealer channel
and that can't be done if it was an easy matter for you (or any one for that matter) to get your hands on the RSS. As a result, /\/\ puts a few road blocks in the way for the "average" radio user.
In short, they want you to goto a /\/\ dealer to have your radio serviced, adjusted, etc... and pay the BIG bucks to do what takes in most cases 2 minutes worth of work.
GOOD LUCK!!

RSS
You do not have to get an account to recieve the license agreement or even to purchase the software. You stimply got stuck talking to someone who didn't know what they were talking about.
When I ordered my first license agreement, I simply called them up and told them I wanted the license packages for.... OK THIS IS NEW
I JUST WENT TO THE BATLABS PAGE TO PULL UP THE CURRENT RSS LIST AND GUESS WHAT... NOT THERE ANYMORE!!! IT HAS GONE AWAY WITH THE REST OF ACCESSPOINT. SO I HAVE TO CHANGE MY INSTRUCTIONS NOW...
So here's what you need to do now... call motorola and have them give you the part number for the "software license" for the radio you're after, not the RSS itself. Tell the that you would like a copy of the license... it's free, and does not require an account, if they say it does have them transfer you to their supervisor and work your way up the line till you get someone that knows what they're talking about. If you have a fax machine they will even fax it to you. You'll have to fill out the license and send it back in (no fax, has to be the origional). They will review the license and either approve or reject your application.
You do not have to have an account to buy RSS or anything else from Motorola. The thousand dollar buy-in is only to get a BusinessOnline account. You can still buy anything you could buy from M before by calling them on the phone and placing the order. Just make sure you call the parts and accy. line, not MotorolaOnline. The license form actually has an attached page for pre-ordering the software (pending approval) and allows you to pay via credit card, check, PO, etc. If you don't fill this page out, they will call you as soon as your license is approved and ask you if you are ready to place the software order.
It's really not as bad as it sounds... you just have to be patient and realize that Motorolas right hand has no idea what its left hand is doing.
