Is anyone else experiencing this?

When you put the M5 in the standard charger the pager starts to make a high pitch whining sound until charging is complete? It's not a very loud noise but enought to be annoying. We got 10 of them and I am getting complaints that 1/2 are making this noise.

I have run into the same problem with the standard chargers. I have also run into the problem of the amp. chargers squealing when there is no pager in the charger.

Mine also makes the high pitched noise, only while it is charging.
Once charging completes = light is green the noise stops.

My minitor 5 also whines when it is in the charger. I have the standard rapid charger. Mine also fails to vibrate sometimes.

We have the same problem as well as a few others with the charger amp.
Listed in order of anoyance.

(1) When both the pager and spare battery charging is complete there is a loud hum whenever the pager unsquelches, mos noticable on the repeater hang time.

(2) Some pagers generate a feedback howl when unsquelched with the charger amp at more than 1/2 volume. This apears to be the speaker in the charger amp vibrating the pager. It can be cured with an external speaker.

(3) The whine while charging as mentioned by the original poster.

(4) Also geting honorable mention is the bad battery problem.

Our higher ups spoke with a Motorola rep about 9 months ago about 1 thru 3 and where assured that the problem has been corrected and we would be geting new chargers soon.

Just this week the selling dealer told us that Motorola now considers all charger issues closed since they replaced all our batterys under waranty. They now say there never was a charger problem, it was the batterys all along.

No wonder there s a big push in the area to reactivate the firehouse sirens as each generation of motorola pagers since the Minitor II has just created more problems.

What was the bad battery problem? We got our V's right when they came out. I haven't heard of the battery problem before.

Part of the SRN from Motorola said "after charging, the pager and battery may apear to be dead"

The tempoary fix was to discontinue use of the amplifed charger. Motorola than said the problem was an internal fuse in the battery and the batterys would be replaced in waranty.

We are currently in the process of swaping out 140 batterys.

Out of 140 we only had about 10 go bad before the replacment started, the other issues with this pager/charger combo are much more annoying and Motorola apears to be ignoring them.

Nate we sell the Minitor-V amps but if you look at other posting our Company has the following problems:

1. when the pager is in scan, the amp has a low hum

2. on certain frequencies {153.995MHz for me} the amp creates a carrier when another plug is on the same outlet as the amp.

Keep in mind our chargers are the newest releases, not the older ones with the other problems. But as you can see some problems are still present.

I will also like to point out if you have trouble waking up we sell Alert options used on the accessory pin of the amp chargers we sell Fire Bells, Strobes & the most popular one for Vol Firefighters The Bed Vibrator. E-mail us
