I have a Motorola Visar Model: H05RDD9AA4DN. The radio powers on OK but every time I try to transmit I get the Z88 error. Is this just another one of those controller board problems? I opened it up and checked it out, there didn't seem to be any internal damage so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. Also does anyone know if Motorola STILL repairs these?

have you tried another battery? yes IIRC they are still being serviced at the depot, not sure what the flat rate on them is.

If you only get the '88' error upon transmit, I'd try another battery. The main issue with those units is the controller board is 8-layers and not very rigid. The internal traces thus are prone to breaking very easily...and of course isn't something you're going to be able to see.

No flat rate on the Visar, it's a parts + labor deal. Hopefully it's the battery as mentioned otherwise repair cost would exceed value.

I'd say also a power drop and then reset. New battery and go after those cr*ppy little power pins with a pencil eraser. Do the pins travel smoothly? Is the gold worn off?
