Visar: Mic not muting during MDC PTT ID Sidetone.....

I found this quite interesting. One of my co-workers just got a Visar to use here. Now, just like any other radio with a PTT ID, there is a Sidetone out the speaker. It seems that on this radio, the microphone is not muted during the MDC Transmition. SO, the the Sidetone is picked up by the mic and blared out along with the MDC ID, making for a very attention getting noise blasting out the speakers at HQ. Is this normal for the Visars??
