i have a astro spectra W9 installed as a base radio here by the computer yesterday i thought i was trying to put into service mode by pressing the home button 5 time during power up and when the radio finally came up i got the Fail 01/90 thing. so then i swapped out the control head and it powered up fine. one more thing to add is the control head that i am having the trouble with is a converted hcn 1073d witch till now hasnt caused any trouble. the replacement head i used is a genuine astro head.

anyone got any iedas how i can bring this control head back to life?

thanks

That action alone shouldn't cause any problems, unless there was a preexisting condition and the head felt like dying right there.

Of couse, make sure all the connections are tight. There might have been something looks on the control cable or power connections that wiggled free when you where playing.

it is making good connection like i said in the original post i can use any other w9 head i have. when i was pressing the home key it was during the power up and self check. a quick review of the service manual says to wait till the self check is done. could this have some thing to do with this?

Possible. The 5 key mode is done within 5 secs after the self check.
