I lot of the disscussion boards I vist have that. Several "on-topic" boards, and then a lounge/anything forum. Might be worthwile here.

I don't much have a problem with the idea - I'll keep an eye on this forum, and see how many people respond. If there's a demand, I'll see what I can do.

IRC hasn't been working out - since not too many people know how to use it. I'd entertain other suggestions that don't require pay services.

I find myself in the General Non Glocking forum over at Glocktalk more and more. ITs great to be able to discuss anything, ask any question, etc and people WILL talk! LOL. ALso ditto the IRC - wish it would of worked out. What about some sort of AIM chat, seeing as most people have AIM?

What about a live Java-based chat?

I know Java defeats the point of client/server computing... but at least we could use it from anywhere.

There's as much effort in getting Java to work right as there is effort to get IRC working.

Too many people have different setups, etc, so that would make it hard to do. Sun wanted to eliminate the problem, microsoft kept watering it making it grow into one. Now MS isn't allowed to have intergration of Java into their browsers. Users must have the Sun Applet.

Stupid Micro$oft...

If someone does find something that would be cross platform (mac/windows/unix) and seems to work well, we can go from there. So far, there isn't any real good solution next to IRC.

I like the idea of the OT forum. I once had played with IRC software called 'Conference Room' that had a built in web interface and allowed multiple servers to be connected, plus not require a Unix host. The web interface seemed to work okay. I've since gotten the hell away from IRC. Too many wierdos on those networks.

I think it's a good idea. I am glad to see the vehicle install forum too. Maybe eventually seperate forums for part# and/or accesory identification and programing help?

Hi
Could we not set up a conference room on Yahoo or ICQ etc... or am I out in left field?
I'm not sure of all the ins and outs of that.

The problem is that setting up a conference like that requires people to register for something else, as well as learn a new piece of software to get it going...

Granted - most people have yahoo, and it would probably be as easy to setup.

I have to run it by Bat, considering this is his board. I don't think it will be a problem. I also have to check with the other moderators and make sure that we are on the same page as to how things are to be handled. So it requries a little behind the scenes leg work, but we'll see what we can do.

That, and the last thing Yahoo needs is another email list full of motorola people. They have enough of those going already, some of the posts are pretty funny :)

A crusty looking old codger poised with a microphone...
Maybe cause I started my company in 2-way 25 years ago.. I could come off as a really old guy... when I'm actually quite a hottie to the local women... 8) hahaha!
