Can a Saber or XTS3000 be capable of both the APCO25 CAI and VLSEP modulation types?
Reason I ask - the UHF conventional ASTRO Saber II I have allows both modulation types to be selected in RSS.
Most of my interest is in APCO25 CAI, although a local utility uses VSLEP.
Thanks

You cannot have IMBE(APCO25) and VSELP vocoding in the same radio. The selection is RSS is to choose the vocoding method, but you need to have the correct firmware in the radio to do IMBE or VSELP. I've tried turning on IMBE in a VSELP radio (or the other way around?) and the radio would reset on PTT.

No. The firmware in the radio can ONLY support one or the other, VSELP or IMBE. No mixing and matching in the same radio.
Funny things happen if you try to insert VSELP codeplug into an IMBE radio. Or vice versa. It doesn't work right.

Yeah, funny things do happen. Actually you've got to have a pretty good sence of humor to consider it funny.
Neither Rx nor Tx work in mixed IMBE/VSELP.
