Can anyone give me the correct Motorola part number for ordering the CPS software. I have made 3 calls to M and I have now 5 different part numers and 3 different prices. I'm trying to jump through all of M's hoops to get the software but it seems that no one that I talk to really knows which part number I should be ordering.

I'm not sure with the current RSS part # is, I do know that I just got an astro back from the govt depot and they not only installed the newest Host & DSP, but now my release of CPS won't work with it, get the ol' codeplug too new for application.....

Anyone know if this is simply a release # encoded into the c/p and the cps, and if hacked correctly, like an installation Key, we can get around that?

Looks like the depot reflashed your radio with a new codeplug, which is no longer compatible with the version of CPS that you have. You may want to ask them what version you should be using.

The host/dsp firmware does not define which version of CPS/RSS you should be using. There is a 1 byte field encoded in the codeplug that specifies the version of the codeplug structure. When you read it into RSS/CPS, it checks this number in the the codeplug with the different codeplug format's that it supports. If it finds one it does not support (and it may be an older version codeplug structure), it will tell you that the "codeplug is too new".

Hacking the encoded version number will do bad things. M changes the version number each time it changes it's codeplug structure. So you can imagine what will happen if RSS/CPS tried unpacking a codeplug and the version number was hacked.

Latest greatest RSS/CPS is 9.0.4.

Rumor has it that this will be the last release that will have a backwares compatable version of DOS RSS to go along with it.

Time to save up for that windows compatable laptop... Dell Latitude CP series are quite nice, and somewhat affordable on ebay.

RVN4184 should be the combo-value meal, and program most the radios your looking to do.

What are you specificly looking to program, as there is different CPS for almost every astro radio now.

DOS RSS stops being available at the end of this month. From that point on, it is all CPS.

I still haven't gotten mine yet, and I get the impression that it's been out for a while.

That is at least one of the numbers that they gave me.

I'm off to the Post Office to put it in the mail.

I'll cross my fingers that they don't reject me. They told me that no one has been rejected because of "too many people in the area" with the software. She stated that there is no such rule, but went on to say that I might not be approved "due to other factors". I asked what those "factors" might be. SHe said that it is a total evaluation of my application and not any one thing. SHe refused to elaborate at all but again stated that no one had been rejected because of too many applicants in one area.

I wonder what exactly the "factors" on my application could be, since it is simply a long contract and then my name, address, phone, and signature. I also wonder what it would take to get a straight answer out of them!
