Check your main power lead. Also, make sure your radio has not been inhibited.

There's probably a power problem somewhere.
Check your power connections and make sure power is getting to the drawer unit.

If the radio were inhibited, you wouldn't see anything in the display.

I haven't seen what the 1500 or the 2500 do when inhibited. I'm so use to the W line of control heads that flash fail 01/90.

I have a astro spectra that does the same thing when I have power to the head but not to the drawer.
Check your power connections

Next I would say check the drawer's internal fuse.

Fail 01/90 means the control head is not communicating with the main body of the radio...it had nothing to do with inhibit at all. In remote-head installations, the problem can be that the head is getting power and the main radio is not. It can also be a bad interconnect cable. In a dash-mount radio, it is usually a hardware failure of some sort, or possibly a broken connection if the radio has lead a rough life.

When the O5 control head first came out for the XTL2500, there was a firmware issue. I do not recall (and, for that matter, never acquired) all of the details, but this could be the issue.

Thanks.
I have check power supply, it connected firmly.
My XTL2500 radio is dash mounted....not remote type.
Will firmware of control won't match firmware of body of XTL2500 ???
if it does, how can I fix the firmware ...up-grade or down-GRADE ???

It could also be a corrupted codeplug believe it or not.

Nope, I won't believe it, 01/90 is a fatal hardware failure, as per the service manual.
Take the head off the unit, disconnect the flex from the transceiver and from the head and re-seat them, then, power up the radio, I have fixed 5-6 of these with that repair.

Don't believe it Spectra God? Maybe you should ask my XTL5k with an O5 head that got a corrupted codeplug during cps interaction. Came up fail 1-90 with the O5 head but yet when I tossed a W9 head on it, it came up fail 1/82.

Sorry to say this, but some of the fail codes between the 5k and the 2.5k are different. As per the factory service manuals.
I was not flaming you by any means, mother M needs to work on not changing the error/fail codes between radios and keep some kind of a standard.

In support of neither; I have had Analog and Astro Spectras come up with the FAIL 01/90 and the problem was a corrupt codeplug, like Jason said. I haven't had any real experience with the XTL series, so I won't profess to know for sure. I will certainly agree that Motorola needs to improve and standardize their error codes.

If you are using it as the second head, change it to the primary and see if it still fails. If it works, you need a new dual interconnect port for your remotes.
If that is not the problem, then check all the pins on the head. Make sure all of them are getting continuity on the board and through the cable. I have had some that had bad pins and I ended up flowing some solder on them to get them to make better contact when the cable was hooked up.
You might also check the solder connections on the control head board, and trace them through out the head. You might have a failed SMD somewhere that is keeping a signal from getting through. I recently picked up a 1066 that would not key up. I ended up putting a jumper across the PTT pin at the mic connector to the PTT line on the cable connector. I found that alot of the A9 heads start to go bad at the pin connectors and the layered boards because to much flexing and pressure applied when constantly removing or cheap installation.

Considering the original post was Nov 17, 2007, I suspect the poster has solved the problem by now.
