Hi all, I just bought an MTS2000 from someone on ebay who assures me that its the real thing (not a recased MTX etc). When I asked him to to do the 5 button push trick he says the following:

---
When you push the button 5 times it shows software version 1.37 , model number and serial number.
---

My question is, looking at some of the other MTS2000 threads, it appears that the firmware is in the 5.42 area now? Am I missing something, is it a recased radio or did Motorola have an MTS2000 with version 1.37. How does this number compare to the A7 B7 etc that I hear about? :-?

He doesn't know whats in it for Flash options. I paid $496 for the radio with charger, it's a full front (full keypad) unit.

Thanks gang

J

Typically, from my experience, that is a radio that has had the logic board changed. The current firmware release is beyond 6.58. Doesn't mean it won't work, or that anything is wrong, but I have never seen one that old that was factory. If the internal serial number is 466 something, that is a good indicator. If it is 511, you have an MTX.

The 1.37ver is a MTX8000 that has been labed it will not suport FLASH-PORT upgrades and can not be read or programmed with the new CPS
software. Look at the controller board it should have to chips that have
the words flash on them they are side by side if there is only 1 chip with flash
stamped on it it is a MTX8000 for sure. I bought a MTS2000 800MHz
when Motorola first put them on the markit and it had a FIRMWARE of
4.XX I do not remember exact but it is now 6.22 we upgaded all of our
radios about 1year ago to work with the new system we have now.

Thanks for your help guys, the radio arrives tomorrow so I'll know shortly. I don't have a cable yet to get the RSS to read the serial number but the label on the back says 466 yadda yadda for the serial number and I'll take it apart and look for the DVP plug and the two chips you mention. I bought it off ebay as a MTS2000 so if it's a MTX I'm going to be CHOKED as I wanted to flash upgrade it to 255 modes.

Firmware version 1.37 could still mean it is a MTS2000. In fact there is a good chance that it is a very old MTS2000. I used to have a version 1.15 MTS2000. MTS2000s used be on ths version in the early 90's. These are not flashport capable and may not secure capable, even if you put a module in them. This is because, back then "Secure HW Equipped" used to be an option. If you you didn't have the option enabled in the codeplug this field would not show up, therefore you could not turn it on or off. In the mid 90's M decided to always make these and Astro radios secure capable.

A MTX8000 with 1.37 will do 255 modes, no problem. Wish it did more as I need more modes for mine. Hence why I'm looking for a bigger controller in case someone has one they're willing to part with.
