Batboard

I have two permanent mount on my pickup truck now and want to replace one for any 800 mHz antenna to monitor our local Motorola APCO P-25 system. Despite all of the talk groups in my Motorola XTS5000, I still find that there are other ones that I want to monitor, thus a GRE PSR-500 scanner. Plus, I think I can only scan 15 or 16 talkgroups at one time with my XTS5000. Anyway, if one antenna mount just like another or are there any mounts that have a little more insulation on the feed line? I suppose at that short of a run it isn't worth worrying about, but part of me thinks that even having RG-8X rather than RG-58 might be a little bit better.

More "insulation" isn't going to help you... a larger-diameter center conductor, solid vs. stranded center, better shielding, etc. will. RG8X is pretty big for a vehicle installation - I've seen it done, but, meh. Take a look at the Maxrad NMO mounts with LMR195 preconnected - they work pretty well. You should also run the numbers and see just how much difference you're talking... I use higher-end stuff for 800/1900, 2.4/5.8, and 4.9 antennas... but for 800 SMR, most likely, the difference will be negligible at best.
