This seems really silly, but WHY do the XTS portables LACK an rf contact on the accessory connector for convertacoms and public safety mics? Why design a stupid adapter to use that functionality?

Hi,
I believe this series of radios lack the RF connector on the Universal Adapter due to the numerous difficulties Motorola had with the Jedi series with this option. Lots of blown PA's due to incorrect mating of the adapter.

Sounds reasonable. There IS an external antenna adapter available for XTS radios, but I think it's something like 220 bucks or something ridiculous like that.

An SMA (f) to BNC (f) works great and costs only $3 at many electronics shops. I use a VHF XTS3000 this way with a 1/4 wave mobile antenna. Haven't had any issues with desense, IMD, etc in dense RF areas. I haven't tried a BNC rubber duck yet, but that would make portable to mobile conversion very easy with the BNC connector. We can agree that this arrangement is OK for a tech, it isn't desireable for an average user.

Unfortunately, the CLA mobile drop in charger creates/passes noise that is audible during tx.

Regards!
