Does anyone know if a list exists that has cars with the gear shift selector on the steering column, thereby allowing a more friendly installation option down the center of the car, in between the two front seats?

I like the Dodge Charger, but unfortunately, they only have the steering-shift selector for their police version; consumers get the floor gearshift selector. If only they could have a regular Charger with that gear shifter on the steering column, all would be great...

Any ideas guys?

Don't simply select the car based on equipment based on mounting abilities for your equipment, unless this is a second car.. you may end up unhappy in every other aspect. I have no room to mount anything in my 4Runner, but I am very happy with the vehicle, and it allows me to put my creativity to use when I need to install stuff.

There is no "list" per say.. just go to police/fire stations and see what cars are being used, the same way companies decide what consoles to make. If you search on sites for companies like Havis, Jotto, or Troy you will see options they have for different cars. If you are looking for one simply without a floor shifter you can pretty much get any console in there on most of them, but it may require minor permanent modifications... just figure out want you want for a car in terms of brand (most people are loyal), or read reviews from car places then go to the lots and look in the windows. Depending on how much you need to install, you may not be SOL if you choose a car with a floor shifter or center console... look around the car, and start getting ideas on where to mount stuff. Remember companies make remote head radios now!

Some quick ideas... the consoles for the Escape look nice and it is available as a Hybrid if you are concerned about Gas usage, but need to carry stuff, but I too like the Chargers, and yes you can get a civillian model and get a console to mount equipment into.. I forget who makes it though I think Havis or Troy

Yeah it was Troy that makes a console for the floor shifter model.. doesn't have as much equipment space as the consoles for non-floor shift models, but again all depends on how much/what you need to install

When in a pinch...

Find a A3/W3/O3 head for the correct radios and to a HHCH setup for the Motorola.

If you need lights and blinky's, you can pick up the Whelen HHS controller as well.

As stated, do not buy a car soley for ease of installs. If you really must, check out Jotto Desk, Havis Shield, Troy Products and Gamber Johnson. Those are all mainstream manufactures.

I went an looked up some interior views of the car. I see plenty of room for at least 2 remote mount radios, even more. There is the area below the music radio, in front of the shifter, remove the cupholders, mount a vertical tree to the floor bolt on the front left of the passenger seat. I have been installing radios into vehicles for 40 years, never seen a vehicle that could not be "radioed"....LOL! I have 3 radios in my H2 Hummer and someone told me it could not be done neatly..ha! Buy the car you want and we will help come up ideas for somewhere to mount the radio.
