I am in need of a mobile UHF radio for use with the fire Dept. I am somewhat familliar with the older style spectras and the like. I have limited room in my vehicle for mounting radios so I am thinking along the lines of an M1225. I have searched ebay and found several but none of them say wether they are going to be usefull after the changeover. I am looking for something with an alphanumeric display and at least 20 channels, any suggestions???

Is this the change over to STARnet system?

If it is, you're not going to find anything you can program up for it without buying directly through your department - it's a MaCOM OpenSky system...

Or are you referring to narrowbanding on your existing conventional UHF frequencies?

Or possibly a migration to P25 digital?

Well the M1225 is just that - a wideband AND narrowband capable radio, hence the 12 & 25 in the model number.

If you go with an M1225, you can set it up as wideband now, and when you're mandated to go narrow you just reprogram the radio.

Same deal with the P1225 portable, and pretty much everything else that Motorola has released since the 1225 series.

Well, the answer to that is probably where ever it fits and where ever you think it's best mounted.

I had the factory console down the middle. It may be possible to remove your center armrest section or even get a "40" driver seat from a junk yard and do this:
