Batboard

I have a 3920 in my 8x8 ft screen room. The bench is L shaped with the monitor in the muddle of the L. The monitor was so noisy it unusable for extended periods. Using the AV depts sound meter I measured 85DB six inches in front of the unit. My HP8920A measured 71 DB at the same distance.

I was rummaging around the stock room and I came across a pile of acustic tiles purchased to replace rain discolored ones. I took two of them and mounted them in the L. This reduced the sound level to 72DB and made the monitor usable!

As you move the monitor into the corner the noise goes down the deeper it goes. This cheap fix made a giant difference.

If it's so bad, I'll trade you straight across for my prized 8921...

It was so bad that I put back my 8920. Now all I have to worry about is the tiles catching on fire from all of the sound they are absorbing.

Early last year we purchased 4 3920s. Until last week one was never unpacked. No one wanted to use the noisy box at their bench. Now it is assigned to a field tech where the noise does not matter.
