How about a MPD on 900??

Actually the rad is a 800--will it shift far enough to do 900?? Know it's not /\/\, but there is a wealth of knowledge here. Thanks for any help. Blitz.

Nope you can't get there won't do it can't make it get to 900 mhx. Infact they never made the MPD in the 900 mhz range.

It does the 900 ham band quit nicely, in fact it will tx and rx the entire band but the mods are all hardware and I strongly suggest you have the 800 manuals handy. Basically You have to cut the top off the VCO and change 3 chip capacitors and then replace the helical front end filters with the proper 900 filters and the power module which gets pricey. If you have a 900 MHz MPA rf section alone, but you wouldn't need to go this route if you had the MPA controller, but you can throw the MPA power module in the MPD and make it work at around 2 1/2 watts out. There is also special MPD 900 software floating around that permits programming ham frequencies and they are very nice little rugged 900 HTs once converted.
Of course the question is do you like to modify and convert radios as a lot of us do or do you want to just program and talk.

I'd suggest going over to the AR902 group on Yahoo and you will find all the 900 info you would want on the MPD conversions, basically just about every GE/ericsson, Motorola and Johnson radio that does either 800 or 900 commercial has already been converted by someone on the Yahoo AR902 group to the 902-928 ham band.
