P110 Problem? Help Required

Hi

I have just been given a Radius P110, model number P23QLC00A2AA.

Before I build a programmer to talk to it I have one issue.

When I push the PTT and TX, the LED flashes green quickly and there is a high pitched repetative beep. This continues until I release the PTT.

Is this a fault, or has it lost its marbles so to speak.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Andy.

Sounds like a dead or defective battery.

Hello :
I agree with the dead / bad battery on the discription of your problem also.
You have a VHF 1 watt 2ch radio that is a narrow band 12.5 khz transmitter in the P110 version.
If you are intending to use it on the 2 meter ham band it will not work perfectly due to ham 2 meter being wide band .
Not saying it wont work but expect over blown rx audio and under modulation on tx due to the 12.5 n/b specs of the radio.
Others will have to turn there rx vol up and you will have to turn your rx volume down as an example .
on aq one to one conversation it can be done but if others are also in on the conversation then they will constantly be turning up and down there volume rx control to compensate ect and that will bother some .
Just added info for you to consider.
I might be interested in the P110 if you decide to part with it.

If you're going to buy a battery for it, you might consider re-casing it as a GP300 first (different battery). Simple job, and to me at least it's much more comfortable to hold.

Thanks guys for all the help

It was the battery, but the battery wasnt faulty. I didnt get a charger with this unit so only gave it a small charge to test. Needless to say it wasnt enough.

Charged the battery at work on a multifunction universal battery charger and problem gone :)

Now I can get on with the fine business of making a programming adaptor.

Many P110s, like the 'A' models built after 1993, have different methods of setting the tones, and accessories as well as(huge gripe), no selectable timeout timers, these are preset to 30, 60 seconds, or at best, you get up to 90 seconds, or OFF.

The P44QLC200A2AA and others appear to have the 'monitor' forced to the 'ON' condition as a preset(mine did). And this is a bother as you can't transmit until you press the PTT switch twice to get the radio to TX.

Also, I doubt the P110 or GP300 was ever made the only operates at 12.5kHz. channel spacing. I have given/sold several I had and still have about 10, and not one of these are NB only.

Many I can not get to program at 12.5, but can program 20, 25 and even odder spacing, and unlike the 'E' models that were made before 1994 that were able to handle all spacing issues, including 12.5, 20 and 25 kHz.

But the later models also changed the side buttons from three in certain models types, to just two(mon. and PTT).

But a case swap is a good idea, and if you have three side buttons, you may be able to make use of them, or modify a P110 case to gain the SB2 usage(btdt).

You can use a P110 battery on a GP300, but it will not lock on, and you can modify a GP300 battery to work on a P110 case by clipping off the bottom two guides on the outside of the case.

I know it's a b***h to ruin a good battery, but if that's all you have, your choices are limited(the battery will still work on the radio even with the guides clipped).
