Astro spectra /spectra plus

I have a Astro spectra model D04JHF9PW4AN (W4 control head). I was wondering what the differance is between a astro spectra and a astro spectra plus. I am currently using DES-OFB however one of the services I will soon have access to is using ADP. I would like to convert (if possible) my spectra to support the additional encryption. I am aware that it will require a new encryption model. Depending on the replys in the forum I will decide what route i need to follow to support the new system.

basically a astro spectra plus is a astro25 astro spectra. it cannot run O series heads but supports 512 modes if i remember correctly.
to do this you will need
astro spectra plus upgrade kit ($300 or so dont quote me)

after the upgrade the radio will not read with a rib then & you need the astro spectra + cable & astro25 mobile software.
also be aware the astro spectra plus cable is not available as USB it is serial only.
also be aware your des-ofb module will not work in the new radio as the firmware is different for astro25 tier radios.

theplague thanks for the info it looks like I will have to look for a astro25 vhf radio. I do have the software and i believe that i can source a cable. It looks like this project will be too expensive to use my own equipment. such a shame ther is no way to convert the spectra I have to a astro25. maybe a NTN4616 or 4617 module would work for both encryption methods. I have access to a keyloader.

ADP is ONLY supported in Astro 25 radios.
