Is an R2018D similar to an R2001D?

Dear Sirs,

I have an opportunity to buy a Motorola R2018D service monitor online. I cannot find any information online about such a model. The online picture looks identical to an R2001D. The photo of the sticker label on the back of the unit says "Model R2018D..".

Is anyone familiar with this model?

I have never had the opportunity to own my own service monitor, and this one looks like it'll do what I need (PL/DPL, wattmeter, scope, signal generator, etc).

Thanks again to y'all in advance ! I appreciate your advice!

An R2018D IS an R2001D.

The R2001D model number is the basic model. There are various options that were available for the instrument such as encryption, trunking, IEEE488, and cellular.

Whereas most test equipment companies list options separately from the instrument model number, e.g. option 102 on an HP8920, Motorola chose to have a variety of model number variations to indicate the installed options, for example an R2005D is an R2001D with Securenet installed.

The R2001D manual lists several of these combinations but not the 2018 version so an old price page would need to be consulted to determine the exact option configuration that number represents.

For basic use you can be comfortable that it is a 2001D.

The later models of the R2001D series have some features that were not in the earliest D models such as DTMF decode and cable fault testing. They also have menus for special function entry whereas the early ones simply show a screen where you put in a two digit code.

The R2001D is a fine instrument and should serve you well.
