Notice says to contact Motorola for availability of the GTR8000 for conventional.

Also saw this little tidbit as a footnote to the Quantar notice:
• * Analog and Digital SMARTNET and SmartZone systems will reach the end of their system lifecycles for adding new channels at the end of 2011. No replacement will be available.
• ** Please contact your Motorola sales representative for product availability.

This announcement leaves one little rock unturned in the Quantar death saga: PDR-3500, which is simply a Quantar with its boards laid out horizontally, rather than vertically, and mounted inside of a nice Zero One suitcase, with a mobile duplexer attached to its top.

We just got a few new GTR8000 P25 stations in today....not too impressed with the new design. No field replaceable slide in moduals. Right out of the box the firmware needs updating so the first one could not even be put in service today.

Last told in person, the PDR3500 has no planned EOL at this time.

Yes but the PDR is a suitcase portable repeater. The GTR is a high end P25 machine.

They will likely need to do something for a portable P25 suitcase repeater, especially with the Gov't demand for this. The PDR3500 uses the standard Quantar modules, so these will soon be no more. Unless they come up with a cheapie P25 repeater, I can't see how they can kill off the PDR, but who knows...

Look at the Daniels ET-5 and ET-6... far less money than the PDR, and they work very well.

Rat's, now I need a replacement fan for the power supply in my 110 watt UHF Q. Looks like the power supply is made by Onan.

BTW there are about 22 high power 438 - 470 Quantars available out here if anyone needs them( not mine). Really good condition and very clean units.

JW Global 888-910-8600 is the repair depot that M uses for Onan power supplies. They will deal directly with the end user.

Great info loband.

I got the power supply back cover with the fan out of the module. Seems simple enough to replace the fan now...the bearings are beyond shot and it sounds like a freight train...
