I believe I've seen others post that it's around $1000-$1500 U.S. for the FLASHport upgrade from Smartnet to SmartZone. Good luck getting it done though. Check the link below for more information.

The most important line is at the bottom:

Getting flash upgrades is nearly impossible unless you're an original buyer of the radio from Motorola directly. Officially, they don't sell any flash upgrades to any secondary market radios. Exceptions are rare.

You can also check this post for a little more info:

If I recall correctly, anything above H35 will get you that option, and any below it. For example, if yours is flashed to H38, its supoprts H37,36,35. I don't do trunking, but thats what I remember reading. However, the higher the trunking format, the more $$$$.

The 2001 price pages list the upgrade from H37 to H38 as:

ENH: Upgrade to Smartzone, Nomenclature: Q327, APC: 430, DNUP: $400.00

what do you show for flash u/g to Apco25 trunking?
I have trunking enabled (flashed) on my a/s 3 now, but not the P25, also are there any drawbacks to getting it upgraded?
I think I heard somewhere that once you have P25, you lose some other feature(s)???

The upgrade of an Astro Saber III to Astro25 trunking is still an open issue. There was another thread about that a few weeks back.

At first, when I asked my Motorola sales types they said 'no way'. Then someone - I think it was Shaun - posted the option code so I asked M again and then they said that is was possible but some features might be lost. I asked how much and they said "we'll get back to you on that".

Every time I ask about it they waffle around it and say they will make a super good trade in offer on a new XTS5000 so I think they REALLY don't want to do it. BTW - I asked this in connection with interoperability with a new multi-million Astro25 system they just sold here, so you would think they would be as receptive as they ever will be.

Not 100% sure - but I believe the issue was that APCO25 complience required a 9600 baud control channel. Having this feature in your radio means that you will not be able to use the older systems that do not have a 9600 control channel. (I/II/Smartnet/Zone...)

Again, not 100% sure...

Shaun is right, the XTS and Astro Saber with new enough firmware can be flashed for Astro 25 trunking (which uses 9600 baud control) - Motorola confirmed that to me.

My specific question for Motorola was: will the radio still work on 3600 baud systems? i.e. can you have both types of systems programmed into one radio? They did say that it is possible to do that.

That is the whole point - being able to put both in one radio for interoperable use between whatever system you have and whatever systems your neighbors have.

The salesman said some engineer told them that when you put both 9600 and 3600 systems in one radio you loose some feature capabilities on 3600 baud systems. I suspect that is where the problem is - the RSS may let you put anything you want in there and the radio may or may not work completely right depending on the combination of features or total codeplug size or some other factor they can't completely define - hence their reluctance to flash your radio since it may have less than 100% correct operation in some way.

I am still telling them I want a price for a flash upgrade - not a trade in. I'll post any relevant answers.

I'll look for a thread that covered this. I think you lose some of the unit call features etc. Features that are not usually used, but are there.

xmo, do you still have a complete prices list laying around? I could use some prices for some options (even if they are outdated). My MSS is being slow again.

I have an 800 MHz P25 ASTRO 9600 trunking XTS3000 with H38 in it with a flash of 100008-000480-9 that I have used for an avionics demo with michigan state PDs 9600 P25 system and I have also used the same radio package for 3600 K ctrl channel P25 smartzone omnilink system demos in the same avionics package so it is possible to get 3.6 K and 9.6 K in the same radio. Don't ask me what it cost as it was a present so I never saw any cost figures.
