A buddy's bought an AS3 but there's no serial/tags on the back and he states nothing comes up in the RSS. Where does he have to look to see the serial# inside the radio? Thank you.

Press the closer of the two RAT buttons to the front about 5 or 6 times in a row on power up and it should go into test mode. You'll have to do it a few times to get it all as it all goes by fast. You'll also get the flashcode and other important info about the radio.

He tried that and supposedly gets all zeros. I don't know if he's talking about the right # in the sequence. That's why he wants to look actually inside the radio to see if there's any serial #s anywhere.

Tell him to talk to the seller and ask of the radio's origin....

Sounds like something that would burn my hands if you know what I mean....

Also sounds like it's been depot'd B03.04.00 if ya know what I mean...

If it doesn't come up during that sequence.... you're SOL. It's not stamped on any part inside the radio, just on the outside label and in the codeplug. The info that scrolls by is right out of the codeplug, at least from what I know about them it is. Maybe someone else can second that.

We know it's in the codeplug, but he says he gets all zeros when doing the startup-button sequence that shows you DSP, serial#, etc., info. My advise to him was to tell the seller he wants his $ back, and quick, if the radio is hot. We both thought the serial # would be stamped on an eprom inside but we don't know where to look. At least then we could check if the radio is indeed hot. we have close LEO friends. Since he's getting all zeros I'm suspicious right off the bat though.

If it displays all 0s, then the serial number in the codeplug is all 0s. Can he read the radio and write it back? If he cannot write it back, does RSS indicate that there is a serial number mismatch?

The serial number is not stamped anywhere inside the radio.

He's since gotten his $ back. Thanks to all for the help.
