That very well be the new O2 and O4 control heads for the APX4500 mobile as well. The 4500 is based offf turbo. Also the APX4000 is based off turbo with all turbo accy, so the handheld may be an early 4000 as well

The portable is definitely TRBO, all details state XPR7550. The oddity is the antenna, I just don't get it.

Looks like it's a bit smaller than the XPR6550, if the size of the accessory connector is anything to go by. Can't wait to see the documentation.

They've got an APX2000 on the way too, according to adverts they have for product support engineer jobs in Singapore.

In the Latinamerica dealers convention in Cancun (october 2011) we saw a presentation with the new models for 2012.

Mobiles with bluetooth and two new portables one low tier without gps. Ipsc, etc and one full portable with all the options gps, ipsc, capacity plus, etc.

Any idea of pricing? Do you think these new radios would be priced lower than the current XPR6550?

but motorola already tried it once with a gps-less option (plus the analog only option) and they canceled both

I believe this is the Motorola "Paradise" series. I'd heard about it coming down the line but was asked not to say anything about it. Since someone else spilled the beans, there ya go - it's codename.

The real interesting thing about the APX and Trbo lines is they use the same processor/dsp combo IC; the low tier apx radios will probably be nothing more than trbo hardware with p25 phase 2 firmware and a flashy new case.

Could even end up being the same for high end APS gear too. It'd make good engineering sense to have as much common hardware as possible. No idea what's in TRBO gear, but the particular TI OMAP chipset in the APX7000 is dirt cheap and is also used in cheap low end smartphones.

Based on some information gleaned about cables and connectors look for a new "mid-tier" TRBO line will be introduced in the near future. Still trying to determine if these new units will feature a different accessory connector, things are pointing in that direction.

The current TRBO line will be referred as the "pro-tier". Wondering if this new "mid-tier" might be made by Vertex?

The ship has made it known that they would like to move everything into the TRBO direction, could be the beginning of the end of the CP200/HT1250 range of radios.

Search by manufacturer code. /\/\ has a few. You can glean them from spec sheets

Will be interesting to see what happens on the low end. CP200 is still Motorola's #1 volume radio, at least that's what they say. I guess if the new unit is in the same price range customers won't care.

I doubt it will be the same quality though. The XPR's are not nearly as durable as the cp200 series. I have changed so many channel selector switched on trbo's its ridiculous, they have already gone through like 6 revisions.

From our shops experience, the Trbos have been the most durable radio in some time. I would say the volume control is the only weak spot (we have only had a couple fail in the over 500 units deployed) with the radio.

For example, the accessory connector is far superior to the CP200.

We have 2 casino's with about 400 trbo portables and have probably had channel selector problems with about 200 of them.

Usage profile probably has a lot to do with it.

If you've got a customer where any individual employee generally only ever uses one channel, the channel selector probably isn't seeing much wear and it's unlikely to develop problems. Another customer whose users change channels/talkgroups 20 times a day probably will eventually see issues.
