I would like to increase the mic gain on my UHF HT1000, without using the AGC. My MT2000 allows this alignment to be made through the F2 (service) under the transmitter alignment section. I Can't find it in the HT1000/Visar RSS...

Do you all agree that you almost have to yell into the mic on any of the Jedi series radios to get these radios to modulate. I've had a few over the years and they have all have been the same.

That is true, the HT1000 does not have a mic gain. The GP300 does!
I find that I have to set the deviation right up to the +/- 5khz limit and and adjust the compensation (this is difacult and requires a GOOD service monitor with a scope) to get good audio.

Hi:

You really should not have to YELL into the
radio to achive proper deviation.

What you should try is a External Mic, and see if there is a major improvement.

If there is:

I have seen ( Dirt & Debrie -Food ) particals
covering the small access hole where the mic
is located in the mother radio.

I have also seen the internal mics become
defective over a period of time if the radio
is used / abused alot.

Give those areas a try...you might be surprised.

i run into the occasional ht1000 that simply won't get loud enough until the mic element itself is replaced. you can sometimes bench check these radios OK over and over, but in the field, when the user is talking more than an inch or two away from the mic, it's just too quiet.

Thanks to all those that replied! The speaker mic does make a bit of difference, but not the night/day difference that I was looking for. I often times hand this radio over to my wife (who tends to whisper when she talks) for use on GMRS.

My opinion about the AGC is that it tends to increase the amount of noise in the transmitted audio, but it is better than nothing.

Again, thanks!
