SP-50? Do I *need* a RIB?

Okay, if you've read some of my other posts, my only synth radio is my scanner.

I'm ready to take the plunge into synth radios, and I might be able to get my hands onto a used SP-50 VHF with a good price. Just some questions.

I'm going to sound like a lamer, so take a deep breath before reading on.

1. Do I *NEED* a RIB to program it? Is there anyway around this?

2. Will it go out-of-band? I want to use it in the 2-meter ham band.

Yes it needs an RIB. Easiest way to program it is to modify a charger. As of out of band, check the batlabs page on the sp50, it tells you how.
