siren/vrs for spectra

I have a UHF high power spectra and would like to know if I can use a VRS and siren units at the same time.If so how to go about it and what is need, I have both units and cables. any trick cable set ups or what any info is a great help. Any service books around for the VRS. Richard. PS can not stack cables or plugs like syntor 9000X

You might want to try using them as they are, daisy chained, before combining them into one unit.
Double check the cable part numbers to be sure you have the correct cables. Ground connection is vital to proper operation.
Make sure you program the VRS option not just the button in the control head.
In the RSS it will be F2 radio wide, F9 other options, F4 VRS options or F6 siren options when you get to that point in programming.
the VRS goes first on the daisy chain from what I understand, the Siren shoud be last in line. What model siren do you have? there are SYNTOR ONLY models and Spectra models. Models ending as SP01 are Syntor only, SP02 are Spectra models.
You can convert a SP01 to SP02 for about 115.00 in parts from motorola. If you combine them into one unit I am told by County Comm shop that there is a specific interface cable you need for the combo unit. I just did mine and this is the problem I have. After the conversion, there is constant noise coming from the PA speaker, the radio does not shut down like normal (stays "on" via a power feedback), and very little audio from speaker when using PA, airhorn or siren tones. anyone have a solution or know what causes this let me know.

According to the 6806273T69 VRS manual ($ 11.75 retail) you must make sure the VRS is the first unit, then the Siren/PA. To daisy chain the Siren/PA to the VRS, you need the Systems 9000 Siren/PA T-Cable part number HKN4304A (which is No Longer Available as a new part). This Siren/PA T-Cable connector plugs into the VRS with the other end attached to the Siren/PA. The VRS uses the standard Spectra HKN6038B VRS cable.
The VRS unit will have a stacked T-Cable connector just like a Syntor X 9000 which it is capable of handling. It is needed to hook up to the Siren/PA unit.
Of course you should get as much distance between the Spectra antenna and the VRS antenna as possible. Pay careful attention to installation, power wiring, especially grounds, etc.
The specific Siren/PA/VRS all in one combination unit cable referred to by PCSAR 4x4 652 is a HKN4363B. It is the standard Spectra Siren/PA cable. There is no "special" cable needed. Of course this Spectra Siren/PA cable replaces the two cables needed for individual VRS (no T-Cable to stack) and Siren/PA units.
As PCSAR 4x4 652 pointed out, you should check your VRS model number. The Syntor X 9000 SP01 VRS can be converted into a Spectra SP02 VRS with a $ 71.25 retail microprocessor chip (see Batlabs Spectra page).
If you do the Siren/PA/VRS combination conversion be careful. It is easy for an experienced technician to do, but, mistakes can be costly.
As Metro121 pointed out, he has had great success doing this conversion so it has been proven to work many times over. The details are on the Batlabs Spectra page. The required shield is $ 41.10 retail.
