I've got a X9000 loband with a HCN1036E (A9) head.

The head has the 12 button keypad, and the
usual 2 rockers + 2 buttons on the bottom row, and 2 option buttons on the top row.
(scan and TBscan in this case).

I'd like to add a couple more buttons, for MPL, Dir, and Ext.

Am I safe in assuming that I can just drop the buttons in, and program the head appropriately, or are any additional mods to the head necessary?

Does anybody have a few spare buttons that they would be willing to part with?

Thanks

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

That's correct. Just reprogram the head for the keys you want to add, then drop in the actual keys. That's it.

Motorola no longer sells the "Ext" key, but, the 3805672X97 "E" Key is a good substitute. Here is a list of the keys:

BTW, do not forget to also program the radio's MPL screen, the User Mode Programming "Alternate Transmit Frequency" and set the "Extender" to operator select.
