I was reading where it was possible to convert a Mitrex low band to 6 meters.
If I have a Mitrex mobile on 39.540mhz, is
it possible to retune the radio into the 6 meter (52mhz to 54mhz band?)

I'm not the expert on this, so I can only help so much.
I believe low band MITREK units came in three different band splits (I think.) A 39 MHz unit could maybe get into 6 meters, but you will need to to some tweaking. And, if worse comes to worse, you might have to change some inductor and capacitor values. It would get messy.
First off, it would be much easier if you have a service manual to work from. These might be tricky to find; I can't remember if Motorola still prints them. Anyway, a manual will help you in adjusting the rig.
I would suggest hooking up with someone nearby with some RF test-gear. Maybe buy them pizza, and let them help you adjust the radio with you.
Good luck,
