lets say i start out with a saber IE, equipped with an 8k 5D display board and dual zone switch. i install a new front sheild with menu buttons and a keypad, and install a saber III housing. will the radio now be a saber III? or is there a difference between the display boards? would the radio have text and scan? how many channels could i program?

Think you will also need the 3 wire flex assy. that goes from the Spkr/Mic assy. to deliver the DTMF tones through.

I tried exactly what you are talking about and the RSS recognized the 1E 8k as a 2k. I think you have to force program it according to BatLabs info by interupting the program process. This can leave you with a corrupted board also which is why I was hesitant to continue on with it.

Let me know if this works as I have three 1E's that I have here and would like to maybe upgrade one.
