2004 chevy impala install

Post by mokena208 »

I am sure that all you installers have done a ton of these, but for some reason this car really was a pleasure to work on. It will be used as a traffic unit. Any comments about design, etc would be appreciated.

Here is the link. It has a few pics and 2 avi's of the lights in action.

Enjoy!

Nice

Very nice. :)

Soon as I move back from the far east (Ok, Maryland), I'm slapping my grills in.

Thanks! Glad you guys like it. It was nice, all brand new stuff in a brand new car. Didn't have to strip it out and slap it back into a new one! Kind of nice for a change.

Looks good .... One thing I might suggest with the halogen dashmiser is an airbag cut out switch. If there is a front end collision that light will go flying .

Other than that... nice job

I'll keep an eye out for that car when I'm on duty down at the county.

Looks nice, excellent work.

if you like the q siren, I will try to post some pics of our light plant... it is a 98 dodge ram with a 30 foot mast on the box. ontop of that is 2 1500w metal halide lights. plus a 7K generator. and slavage tools. I will see if I can find some pics.

You mentioned the light going flying if the air bag pops.... that light came out of a crown that did pop the bag. it was velcro-ed to the dash. that officer walked away with a black eye. Thankfully nothing worse. That is why it is up out of the way now. have to see about the air bag kill switch.

The airbag switch for the Impala is pretty much " plug and play"

The console is a Lund LI-900-000 with Toughbook docking station and tilt/swivel adapter. It also comes with custom brackets for the Impala mount. I would recommend this console for any impala or CV. With the custom brackets it was installed in about 30 minutes. Very easy and very tight install.

Does the generator have to be on to run the Q or do the all your other lights dim out when you hit it? :D Still, great install detail!
What kind of grille lights are those and what kind of speaker/where is it installed?
Actually haven't seen many halogen lights in a long time - after having gone to basically all LEDs/Strobes, forgot the classic look of halogen!

Glad you like the truck. I am going to post pics soon, hopefully this weekend. The Q is currently siezed up, so no problem keeping the lights on! hopefully this year we can get it working again, but it does make a nice decoration!

As for the black impala... the lights are just sho-me red/blue flashing halogens. Nothing really special about them, but they do look great on the car! The siren speaker is a generic thin speaker. It is mounted to the post that the hood release is on. The tan impala that I finished for the chief has a fed sig slim speaker mounted to the frame above the radiator.(same setup in the front end). I would recommend going with that. The fed mount works out very nicely.

One thing to note about the red/blue lights... the clearance between the frame and the top of the plastic body is very tight. With the sho-me lights, I ended up taking some old steel U brackets, bolting them to the frame and then bolting the lights 90 degrees from the car frame to get them to fit. I should post some pics of that soon, the car is in service so it is hard to get it back now!

The light bar in the back window is a Code 3 Slick Stick. It can come in a variety of options, with a short arrow stick, strobes, or halogen in the middle and then rotators on the end.

As promised... I have posted some pics of the Dodge light truck #286. They are all in the garage due to inclement wx. I will try to dig up some "action" shots to post as well. I would love to answer any questions about the truck. It is most definately the pride of our fleet!
The only thing that you will not see is the rear compartment. Inside are the pumps, chain saws, barricades, etc.... but I was too lazy to pull the truck forward! I will post more soon.
I hope you guys enjoy the pics and stay safe.
