You'd have to reprogram the radio as a Saber III, of course. A new radio personality is created and its model number will be identical to the current model number, only SAJ becomes SAK or QXJ becomes QXK.

Not every Saber II keypad (the one stuck to the front shield) is a 15 button keypad. There are some 3 button keypads. That would have to be changed.

Is your Saber II a 2K limited memory type?
That option will be enabled in the RSS if it is. If so, you have a display board that will never exceed 48 channels and it has other limitations as well.

so if i buy this kits, now or when he lists another.

I swap the display/keypad and then recase it.

then what do I have to do in the RSS to enable the dtmf? and I send my radios to a MAA for programming. is their any other feature that has to be flashed or upgraded to make my saber 2 120 channels into a saber 3 120 channels with dtmf

That system saber keypad will not work with your saber II. The memory/display board is different between a system and non system saber. If you need a 15 key flex and shield (I strongly reccomend this combo ordered together) John Panik has them for $50. Better price than M direct ($69 for the keypad flex alone) I've found him easy to deal with in the past.

Just to cover it all again, before you buy anything, confirm that you have an 8k memory board, then see if you have a 15 key keypad. If not, order the keypad shield combo and change the model # in the rss to reflect the new radio model. Put it all back together in a saber III case and you should be good to go. The only other thing to watch for is whether you have a 3 lead flex going from the display board to the mic on the shield, as this is how dtmf tones are transmitted from the display board to the modulation stabes of the radio. Thanks, Will
