CDM1250 turns on when I start the car

Background: Grand AM gt 2000 car. CDM1250 permently mounted under heater/AC control panel. Power to the CDM1250 is run directly to the battery + and - with 10 gage wire. Power wires run through the firewall with grommet and silicone water proof seal.

OK, now the problem. About 40% of the time when I start the car, the radio automatically turns on. Is there something on the accessory pins/jack on the back of the radio not set up correctly?

I realize that when cars start, there are power spikes and sags. I tried a 20 amp MTI power filter - no difference.

Any suggestions? This happen to anyone else?

What a pain it was to install the CDM1250 under the heater controls, but it looks like a factory option installed at the factory - well worth the time spend installing it

Not sure about the 40% bit... possibly a setting though. What have you got set under the power on/ignition behaviour in the codeplug?

The only options related to power up/ignition is under Radio Configuration | Accessory Configuration. The Ignition Sence is set to "On/Off & Ignition"


my other 2 options are "Follow Ignition Only" and "PTT Disabled"

Other than that setting, I can find nothing else related to power up options. Am I overlooking something in the CPS R04.00.00? They sent me CPS R06.??.??, but it's collecting dust in the corner, as R04 has worked perfect for the last few years.

Finally got my car how I want it, radios mounted perfectly, GPS in the perfect place. So what happens? An idiot drives 40mph into the rear of the car while I was stopped I saw "stars" for a few seconds before my vision came back - broke my right hand, so no flaming for typo's as this post took 30 minutes+ to write. Thankfully there were 5 officers 50 feet away thet watched the whole accident unfold.

Ouch Hightower! Hope he was insured... glad to hear you are ok, sorry about the car . Same happened to my explorer, it got totalled as soon as everything was totally finished.

Um, you didn't mention it, so...do you have the ignition sense wire going to pin 10 of the accessory connector? It's needed for proper on/off operation.

A trick to use to avoid adding the full ignition sense wire kit is to add a jumper between pins 4 and 10 on the accy plug.

Program to "follow ignition".

As long as you are not using pin 4 for another accy it works everytime.

Car and radio are in the collision shop right now. I can't remember what pins are jumped, but that is the first thing I will check. Thanks

Why "Follow Ignition"?

Follow Ignition will disable the on/off switch from what I can tell.

Hopefully I will get the car back next week - I miss having a radio, and the Cadallac Deville rental I got is terrible.

I do remember seeing one jumper wire, not sure what pins it was though. Will check it when I get my car back.

run fused B+ to pin 10 with a 1A fuse.

the radio will now follow ignition AND allow the power switch to operate.

Make sure you do what you can to milk that other insurance company for new mounts, antenna's, anything else like that which was damaged in the accident. I got another $700 out of the insurance company when they totaled my old car for property damaged in the accident.

Additionally, I also sent them about $2k worth of repair bills of work that was done on the car over the past year. This went to proove that I was planning on driving the car with almost 99k on it for a while longer, thus, it was worth more to me. They gave us another 1k of that back.

Called the collision repair place toay, and they said that there was found more damage and had to order additional parts & the back bumper was out of stock.

I have not had the chance to check all the electronics in my car after the accident, I do know my /\/\ mic's PTT is damaged and the HT1250 flew of the passengers seat into the dash. My Color GPS III was not on during the accident - I forgot about that and need to check it soon!

I have not been able to work since the accident, so no souce of income for the next three weeks at the minumum.

The guy who hit me was driving his girlfriends 2002 Saturn - with State Farm insurance. I just thank my luck stars that the car was insured. OMG, that saturn was smashed to pieces. I ripped his bumper completely off when we pulled into a parking lot for the officers report. The police report states:
Primary Cause of Accident: Vehicle #2 Driving at unsafe speed & Following too Close. Roads were clean and not wet, and lit by street lamps. He said he was "Shifting gears trying to slow when he hit me"

It is not that difficult to remove the radio, when I get it back, I got to fix this problem because the radio turned itself on (I didn't realize it) and drained my battery a few weeks ago.

I have about 30 1250's.
Some as local bases with no problems.

Mobile installations, I tie pin 10 to the power lead (fused)
and connect the power lead to an IGN fuse in the fuse box.
About once a month, or so, I get a radio that DOES NOT POWER UP
WITH IGN.

Restart the vehicle and everything works fine.

I think there is a Quirk in the Radio....
anyone ever see this?

I'll second that about the CDM line. We have 2 identical units, done by the same tech...blah blah blah, and they behave differently. Sometimes one unit will not power-up, but if you backpin the connector, there will be the required voltage present.

We had a unit decide to NOT shut off one day, short of physically disconnecting the A+ / GND. The CDM appears to be not entirely devoid of quirks.

I have to agree about CDM quirks.. we just ran into a problem where one would always power up on channel 1 no matter what it was left on when switched off, but another one in the vehicle and one we tried at the shop both remembered the channel they were on last. Every time I see a new Motorola model those Kenwoods start looking better.

How does putting the ignition sense wire to a constant B+ lead make the radio turn on and off with the ignition. Maybe I missed the boat but wouldn't that make it always be on since the B+ always has power??
