97 Chev rearview mirror upgrade?

Post by Pj »

I have the GM rearview mirror with the electronic compass. The display supports temp readings (most likely stock LED's), but can this be easliy replaced with a GM mirror that has the temp and compass controls? How easy would it be to convert etc?

If you pull a mirror from a NBS truck/suv - I beleive it will be easy. The compass is built into the mirror assy., in the form of a little black box below the mirror itself. Hopefully the temp wires will interface with it. Im not sure about OBS compass modules (where they are located).

I have the overhead console in my '95 Blazer with the Temp and the compass. To the best of my knowledge that the compass is built into the console ( assuming the mirror will be the same), but the temperature sensor is a whole different story. The temperature sensor in most GM's (and Fords I think) is located somewhere between the grill and the radiator, usually clipped in the GM's to the radiator support that has the hood latch on it. Most of them look something like the end of a pencil. The temp sensor then goes into the car's computer and comes back out and goes into the console, or mirror in your case. I'd just be cautious and do your research if you plan on pulling one from another vehical if I were you. JC whiteny btw does have a mirror with a compas and temp reading, but it's not cheap.
