Syntor Replacements
AS NTIA says we have to narrowband VHF, I am considering replacing the SyntorXX radio's in my truck. If I have to pull the whole system apart the UHF radio will likely be swapped out at the same time
I Had a chance to use a Spectra radio with the A9 head & was suitably impressed.
The questions are: Does the Spectra do narrowband and what can I expect to pay for the VHF & UHF version (50W or better)

spectra
the analog spectra is NOT narrowband compliant.
the market will become absolutely saturated over the next 5 years with relatively high quality radios getting pulled out and replaced due to this requirement.
if you are using the syntor X due to the rugged design, then the only radio that's going to be remotely equal to that chassis is the astro spectra... and you ain't gonna like the cost of those.
i would probably go with CDM mobiles.... most of the firmware flakiness has been worked out.

eBay at it's finest:
Me: "What exactly is a 900Mhz UHF CB?"
Them: "A very nice CB at 900Mhz speed!"

There is no Syntor XX. The 2nd X is just a drop shadow.
There is a Syntor, Syntor X, Syntor X9000 and a Syntor X9000E.
Don't worry, its gets everyone.
I have seen faceplates that mold perfectly with the CDM's. Looks sharp.
Lowband radio. The original and non-complicated wide area interoperable communications system

Yes, Troy makes faceplates for the CDM series. They fit and look great. Mine stick out a bit because the radio is long but if you were to put them in the deeper area of your particular console they fit fairly flush.spareparts wrote:Doug,
Re the CDM Series radio - any thoughts if they will fit in a Troy Console? I don't see faceplates for them in my Troy Catalog?

Thanks!
